Tout commence en septembre 183 par une révolution dans un parc, l’invention d’un drapeau, d’un chant pour s’y rallier.
En Belgique la fête est forcément tribale. La rue, le café, la bière rassemblent. On s’explique en levant une chope. Multiple et foisonnante, elle se cherche rapidement des lieux permanents et abrités du froid et de la drache nationale. C’est l’architecture des lieux de plaisir qui y pourvoit. Elle prend son inspiration dans l’esprit du jour.
C’est à la présentation de tous ces lieux –cafés, restaurant, tavernes, hôtels, salles de fêtes, cabarets-dancings, clubs de jazz, expositions universelles, cinémas et cyberthéâtre…– qui participent de la convivialité, ces lieux de passage, furtifs, de rencontres qu’est consacré ce livre d’images.

The ever increasing number of festivities quickly creates a need for a permanent shelter out of the cold and the (typically Belgian) downpour. Architecture meets this need by building places in which to have fun, reflecting the mood of the times.
